Measuring Up

It's family tradition to mark heights at Christmas time, and this was Scott's first year. He joins 3 generations of marks (4 if you count adults, too) on the stick. He really wanted to help by holding the square.

Tickle Mania

Scott discovered that he loves to be tickled by Uncle Greg. He would actually throw himself backwards and start shrieking with laughter before Greg even touched him...

Christmas Joy!

Merry Christmas everybody! Scott had lots of fun with all the paper. He got his very first tool box for Christmas and helped his dad unwrap some cool tools for big boys.

One of his favorite toys is the rocking horse from his great grandparent's house.

Scott's buddy Aiden and his mom Tasha came over for Christmas dinner and the boys had fun

playing with the leftover ribbons and things still all over the rug.

The big splash

Scott was baptized this past Sunday. It was fabulous to have lots of family there to see the big event. When pastor poured the first splash of water on his head, Scott arched his back and just about wriggled out of pastor's hands trying to get in the water...

Ready for anything - Crash Helmet

Scott got a helmet on Friday to help shape his little head. I know... I know... Many of you who look at his pictures will say that he looks great and doesn't need a helmet. The pictures really don't show the shape of his head. You have to get a good look from the side/back. The doctor in Orlando says tht Scott has a very unusual head shape and that without the helmet he may have some trouble later fitting into bicycle helmets, sports helmets, etc. So, this short (hopefully 3 months) treatment with the little crash helmet should get him on the right track. He is getting used to wearing it. One picture is from our visit to the orthotist's office - where Scott destroyed the crinkly paper on the examining table while waiting to get his helmet fit properly. The other picture shows him in the jogging stroller - strapped in a ready for anything.

The bottomless pit

Scott has never been known to turn down a bite to eat, and now he even licks the last bit of applesauce out of his bowl. His favorites include applesauce, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Butternut squash is ok. He is not that fond of green beans, though he will eat them. Today he tried peaches , which I thought he would love because they are sweet, but he wasn't too sure about them. Once I mixed them with the baby cereal, he liked it.

6 month check up

It is hard to believe that Scott is already 6 months old. Time flies... He is 17 lbs 2 oz (45th percentile for weight) and 28 in (93rd percentile for height). He may have his momma's fair skin, but he has his daddy's build - tall and lean.

He can sit up, roll over, and stay - ha ha! He is starting to get very frustrated about toys that are just out of reach. He wriggles the legs and flaps the arms, but he hasn't coordinated everything into scooting or crawling yet. He has also recently discovered the joy of assisted standing. The activity center is loads of fun when he is sitting in it, but even more exciting standing along the outside rim. He doesn't stand for very long yet - this is a new skill. It won't be long before he is crawling around and pulling up on things... Look out cats, he will be mobile soon!

Mmmmm... thumb!

Scott's newest trick is that he likes to suck his thumb in between bites of baby food. He is so quick that you can't even get a good clean up swipe in before the thumb. This makes for v-e-r-y messy feeding times. It is pretty much impossible to keep the food from getting everywhere. I think we are going to start undressing him down to his diaper before he eats.

Thanksgiving with ALL the cousins

Scott met his 5 cousins this Thanksgiving at Grams & Pops' house. The picture to the right is just after our arrival -suddenly there were LOTS of faces to see! Woo Hoo! He was well entertained the whole time we were there - non stop motion. It was great to see everyone.

One of the other pictures was taken of Brian assisting Andrew in taking apart and putting back together his dart gun. (They had lots of extra help.)

Scott was tuckered out after the group photo event and Jennifer snapped a great picture of him sleeping on me. It is hilarious that his little milk gut is showing in the picture.

Oh - and we found out that Scott LOVES sweet potatoes. (Butternut squash is ok and green beans are tolerable. Next up is carrots.)

This little piggy ate green beans

The nurse at the pediatrician's office says that Scott is overeating (too many bottles), and that it is time for him to start baby food. So, our little piggy got to try green beans this evening. He ate some, but he wasn't too sure about them. He remains a big fan of rice cereal... and of bathtime. We'll try more green beans tomorrow.

People watching

The 3 of us went shopping today in Orlando with Grams. Scott's favorite way to ride in the stroller is a little unconventional, but it is great for window shopping and people watching. He spent the entire afternoon swiveling his head around to look at people and things. Napping was pretty much out of the question - far too much to see! He was very good all day, and he wore himself out then went to bed early.

NASA Air Show

Grams, Pops, and the 3 of us went to see the Blue Angels at the NASA Air Show today. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the air show from around 1pm until just before 4pm. Scott took a nap through some of it. With the hearing protection on, he didn't mind the planes.

This tiger paw outfit did not help the Clemson Tigers against the Florida State Seminoles, but Scott was definitely cheering for them...

Love's Landing Fly In

This past Saturday we went flying. The weather was beautiful! We went to Arthur Dunn Airport for a great breakfast and then we went to Love's Landing near Leesburg for their annual fly in. The picture of the 3 of us was taken by a friend of mine at work who has a Cessna. We met up with him at both airports on Saturday. Scott enjoyed the day very much. He likes to nap in the plane, and he enoys stroller rides at the airport, or visiting with friendly people.

Another monkey picture

This picture shows the whole outfit. Scott made a morning appearance at my work and his day care in the monkey costume. Big fun for everybody! As you can imagine, the costume is a little warm, so he had other clothes to wear the rest of the day. He must have worn himself out playing at day care, though. He was tired very early and didn't get a chance to put the monkey costume back on for trick or treaters in the evening. He was very happy about getting into the bath and putting his pajamas on... We'll have to wait until next year to take him around the neighborhood.

victory and defeat

Scott rolled over from his back to his stomach all by himself on Tuesday evening. He has been soooo close for several days, and he finally managed to get himself all the way over and then up on his elbows without any push from us. His victory was short lived, though. He started his roll on the bathmat (waiting for his bath) and finished his roll off the bathmat on the tile. As soon as he smiled at us over his victory, he forgot to keep holding his head up and he bumped into the tile floor - a crashing defeat followed by crying... No harm done, just a quick bump of the head that was quickly forgotten by getting in the warm splashy bathtub.

We didn't get a picture of the moment. But here is a picture of him in his activity center being well supervised by Riggs.

Reading a Pop-Up Book

Boo at the Zoo

Friday evening Grams, Scott & I went to "Boo at the Zoo" - a Halloween event at the Brevard County Zoo which is just up the road from us. (Brian missed it because it is drill weekend, but don't worry - he is having a good time.) We met our friends Tasha and Aiden there and all of us had a great time looking at kids' costumes. Scott wore his "Little Monster" outfit for the occasion, and he fell asleep in the stroller about half way through our visit. Aiden is about 2 months older than Scott and he stayed awake chewing on a nifty glow in the dark bracelet. The kids older than ours were busy getting candy from all of the business and non-profit groups that had set up booths around the zoo. We didn't see too many animals, but we did see some monkeys who seemed to be having great fun watching the people. This was a fun little outing, and I am sure we will do it again next year. Maybe next year Scott will stay awake and he can be in the costume contest.

Swimming... or not

Scott thought that the water in the pool was a little bit too cool for his taste, so we will try swimming again in the spring, or in a heated pool. He liked the hooded towel much better than the pool.
