Great day for kites! Still wearing those Easter rain boots this afternoon, or reindeer boots as Meg calls them...They are a big hit.

Big enough
Meg is overjoyed that she is big enough to ride a real roller coaster at Carowinds. She loved it. A few seconds after the ride stopped back at the loading platform, she raised up her hands and shouted, "Yay!" to the amusement of the crowd.

Carowinds
Fun day at Carowinds. Meg is now tall enough to ride some kid rides all by herself, and a bunch of fun chaperoned rides. She had a great time with that today. Scott is tall enough to be unchaperoned on those rides, though he still likes company, because Dad can really get the carts going fast! Scott is also tall enough to ride some of the more exciting rides (level 2 out of 4). He has just under an inch left to go for the 3rd level, so I think he will be into those by the end of the summer. Woo Hoo! The really crazy ones (last level of height requirements) require another 7 inches, so that will be a little while. We also saw the dinosaur exhibit and went digging for fossils.

jogging together
Today was a big day for Scott - he got new running shoes and joined us on a family jog - as a runner instead of a passenger. He did great! He likes wearing his water pouch - I think he went 2/3 of a mile around the neighborhood and drank a full liter. During the jog we encouraged him, and one of the stories I told him was how I used to go jogging with him when he was a small baby using the stroller in this picture, and that while I was jogging I thought to myself that one day my little baby Scott would eventually be big enough to go jogging beside me - and TODAY IS THAT DAY! Go Scott!
And for those of you who love a good throw back picture, here is one of Scott in the very same jogging stroller shown above from a January of 2009 posting on the blog, when Scott was just over 7 months old and cheering for me at the Disney marathon. When he was just a few months old we used to go for a "couple mile nap" with great regularity. He has logged plenty of zzz's in that stroller.
weekend fun - roller skates, trikes, and bb guns
Here are some quickly snapped cell phone pictures of skating and tricycle madness in the cul-de-sac and of Scott's first go with a BB gun. We all went up to the cul-de-sac with our skates, but Meg grew tired of roller skating and was successful in dragging her tricycle up the big hill of the driveway all by herself, which is pretty impressive. Once up on top, she actually started to get the hang on pedaling - which has not really been sinking in, so we were pretty excited about this new idea. Scott was so helpful to her - pushing the tricycle to keep it going while she tried to figure out the whole pedaling thing. He is getting pretty good with his skates. Brian has roller blades, and I even have some skates now from an ebay purchase. I am a bit shaky, but getting back in the groove! Scott is also showing good form on the BB gun from a Saturday afternoon practice session. He seemed to like it.

soccer game
Pictures from the season's first soccer game. Woo Hoo! Coach Brian and Scott on the field having a great time, and Meg and I cheering from the sidelines. Scott is pointing out which way they have to go to score in the second picture. (This is something you have to go over frequently.) Brian's cool idea to have the kids wear colored wristbands for the different field positions is paying off. They are starting to get the hang of it. Meg got LOTS of compliments on her outfit for the game, which included purple soccer socks, a purple dress with frilly cover up, shorts, two different colored tutus, and a necklace. She also has her own pink soccer ball. Everyone got to enjoy the playground after the game.
chalk on main
Pictures from this year's Chalk on Main and Beach Bash, part of the annual spring festival. We enjoyed people watching and dancing to the music after a picnic dinner. Some little monkeys also climbed in the vines...
Scott's school fun run
Scott's school did a fundraiser where the kids ran laps, and the comment from another mom who provided these pictures was "He was a BEAST!" I love the form in the second picture - looks like a future cross country athlete! He certainly has the legs for it. Scott told us how he did the maximum number of laps (35) and go to go in the cones in the middle because he was fast. We will have to sign up for some family 5k's...
Run, Scott, run!
