Sunday in the yard

Scott is really a pretty good helper. He requires specific tasks that involve light, easy-to-carry loads, but he is definitely up to the challenge. If you keep him busy with those kinds of tasks, he will work very hard and actually help you a lot. Sometimes the job you are doing does not lend itself well to his talents, which is when you employ him at something else... like raking mulch. Here are some funny pictures of Scott learning how to rake, then raking mulch out of the garden while wearing a hard hat. I had no idea that our front yard was a hazardous area that required protective head gear. Scott must know something that I don't....

Everything Trucks

The "Everything Trucks" event was part of the annual spring festival here in town. There were ambulances, semi trucks, street vacuum trucks, tractors, humvees, fire trucks, police cars, etc. Scott enjoyed looking at all of the big trucks, but he was not excited about the VERY LOUD horns. Next year we will definitely go back, and we will take ear plugs - for all of us!

3...2...1...BLASTOFF!

Scott likes to shout "3...2...1...BLASTOFF!" and then you are supposed to hurtle him and the wagon across the cul-de-sac. Notice the huge smile on his face. I am sure he is thinking, "go faster, Mama, faster!"

After nap today we had bubble mania. This might explain why Scott was utterly exhausted soon after dinner...

Weekend Fun

Scott and I are enjoying the "Come See Me" festival this weekend. We went to "Chalk on Main" last night where we had dinner at an outdoor table and watched kids decorate Main Street with sidewalk chalk. Scott wasn't that interested in the chalk. He made a few marks and then headed straight for the fire truck. We watched them raise the ladder so they could take a picture of all the colored street.

This morning we watched a parade. We pointed out cars, police cars, and horses. We also clapped and wiggled/danced for the marching band. Just when I thought Scott might be starting to lose interest a group came by handing out be-bops (lollipops). At that point, the parade instantly became a BIG HIT! Afterward we went to the park and had a picnic lunch. Most of the festivities around the Frog Jumping Contest looked like they were for kids just a bit older, so we played on the slide. I must have really tuckered him out, because we left with plenty of time to get home before nap, but Scott fell asleep in the car.

Side note - Scott has been very good about wearing his monkey backpack that has a leash on it, and it is wonderful to have when I am out with him by myself. We get lots of funny comments from people about the monkey. Nothing bad, it just attracts attention, I guess.

Easter eggs

We had a big exciting day today. Scott got his first experience dyeing Easter eggs in the morning, then we went to a birthday party for a classmate of his in the afternoon and rode a little choo choo train. Here are some pictures of the egg coloring. Scott was really into it, picking his colors, looking at the eggs, and helping to move them from container to cup and into the drying rack. He is a bit deliberate and tough on the eggs, so most of ours are colored with cracks.

Fire pit on the back patio

We now have a fabulous stick burning and marshmallow roasting spot on our back patio. Both guys are very happy about it. Scott is very good about not wanting to touch it. He stays well away and says "hot... hot..."

Vist with Grandma & Grandpa

We have gotten moved in and mostly settled, and now we have had visitors at our new house. Scott had lots of fun with Grandma & Grandpa at the park. He loves the swings, climbing, sliding, and playing with sticks. I love this picture of Scott and Grandma with the swing: Here is Brian showing Scott how to do the fireman's pole. This was a big hit.And who really needs big playground equipment when there are great sticks around to mess with? After expending so much energy at the playground, a good story read by Grandpa is fabulous.
